It is only in the 1930s that animation has successfully become an alternative from of story-telling in Japan. The resolve for its lagging behind the European and American film industries is the small market size of Japanese live-action industry suffering from budgeting and other restrictions. Shooting films set on European or American backdrop was almost next to impossible for Japan due to lack of finance as well as absence of a fantasy world in Jap an. In other words, the scope was really limited for Japanese film industry.
